Chairman Ronald Gatling, Vice-Chairman John Horton and Commissioner André Lassiter represented the Board at the Ahoskie Elementary School Auditorium Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, May 12th, 2022. This milestone represents the final phase
$20 million Ahoskie Elementary School construction project. The 340 seat state-of-the-art auditorium will host a range of school and community events.
Commissioner Lassiter stated, “the auditorium is a great opportunity for the community to attend cultural arts events, training workshops and formal ceremonies. This is a tremendous asset for our community, which will serve as a first of its kind venue attracting unique opportunities for our citizens to enjoy.”

The Hertford County Board of Commissioners in partnership with the Hertford Board of Education secured a $15 million grant though the education lottery proceeds. In addition, the Hertford County Board of Commissioners secured a

$5 million loan to fully fund the Ahoskie Elementary construction project. Collectively, the Commissioners commented that the attention to detail and focus on enhancing the educational experience is without equal.
