We, the men and women of the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, believe that our fundamental duty is to serve and protect the citizens of Hertford County with fairness, compassion and respect. We demand excellence in the quality of our law enforcement, stressing professionalism, integrity and timeliness, so that those we serve may feel secure. We provide equal enforcement and protection of the law without prejudice or favor. To be successful in our mission, we require the commitment of the administration, every employee of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of the county, all working together to maintain the Hertford County Sheriff Office as a trusted source of assistance.

What's Happening Now!
The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office is a community oriented Sheriff’s Office providing 24 hours, 7 days a week service to the citizens of Hertford County . The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for all criminal investigations, traffic offenses, service of all civil process and criminal process, narcotic investigations, alcoholic beverage control enforcement, court security, transport of prisoners, communications for county emergency services and for the operation of the jail.

The Sheriff’s Office also provides and participates in community services such as the School Resource Officers program. These programs are having a positive effect in the community.

The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office consists of approximately 56 total employees. They are assigned to different divisions and operations throughout the department. The different divisions in the department are Administrative, Detective (Criminal & Narcotic), Uniform Patrol, Communications and Detention Center.

The Sheriff’s Office has an overall low crime rate. Most crimes investigated by the Sheriff’s Office are related to business and house burglaries, larcenies, ABC and Narcotic violations and domestic violence. More serious crimes like homicides, armed robberies and rape are few in numbers for a community of its size.

The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office has close working relations with surrounding counties (Bertie, Gates, & Northampton ) and with the local police departments (Ahoskie, Murfreesboro, & Winton). Hertford County is a rural county with close to 23,000 people. The county size is approximately 365 square miles.

The goal of the Sheriff’s Office is to be “Committed to Hertford County” and to make it a safe place to live, work, and play.
