Hertford County is seeking to fill the following part-time position in governmental operations
Water Maintenance Worker
Job Functions: Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Public Works Manager. Performs intermediate semiskilled work reading and repairing water meters; Recording consumption; Connecting/Disconnecting service; Preparing and maintaining records;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of the geography and street locations of the County; ability to accurately read and record consumption; ability to walk and drive for continuous periods under varying climatic conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and general public.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from High School.
Physical Requirements: This is medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force constantly and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to received detailed information through oral communications and to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, inspecting small defects or parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibrations, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Must obtain C-Distribution certification within 2 years of employment and B-Distribution certification within 3 years of employment.
