Duties and Responsibilities
 
This position encompasses Adult Protective Services.  Receiving, screening, and investigating reports of alleged abuse, neglects or exploitation and coordinating protective services is a major component.  The worker must assess the need for protective services by interviewing the client in the home as well as family members and other involved parties.  The worker will coordinate and call upon law enforcement, mental health services, home-health, hospitals, and in-home care agencies, as well as any other services needed.  Protective services may also involve nursing or rest home placement or petitioning the court for guardianship.
 
Worker will also provide backup to the Adult Home Specialist as well as the Medical Transportation and Intake Unit. Intake will include Medical Transportation, Crisis   Intervention Program, General Assistance, Voucher, and Elderly and Handicap. Social Worker will also be able to monitor the Homes for the Aged, Family Care Homes and will provide long term placement/referral service for the Adult Home Specialist piece.
 
This position will have responsibility for many activities.  Approximately 50% of time will be spent in receiving, screening and evaluating reports of suspected adult abuse, neglect and/or exploitation.  20 % of time will be in screening, assessing and developing a treatment plan.  10% of time will be spent on arranging, supplying and monitoring services.  5% of time will be spent serving on committees, public speaking and education of public and other professionals, and 10 percent of time will be spent on documentation and record keeping. 
 
Work hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.  Occasionally the worker may need to work past 5:00pm to resolve a problem before leaving for the day.  The worker will be required to do emergency beeper Duty approximately every 6 to 8 weeks, 24 hours a day, for an entire 7- day week.  Holiday coverage is also required.  Worker may also be called to man emergency shelter during disasters.  Conferring with law enforcement, legal, medical, mental health and judicial personnel toward the alleviation of child abuse, neglect and dependency are responsibilities of this position.  Consultation with hospitals, schools and other agencies is necessary in providing for in-home services.  Representation on the Intensive Family Preservation Advisory Board is a function of this position. 
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required – The worker will need the ability to speak and write clearly, convey information to others and respond appropriately in emotional or crisis situations.  Organizational skills are essential to meet designated responsibilities and to function under stress. Worker also need the ability to recognize when he/she needs help and to seek assistance or consultation from Supervisor or Director.  A knowledge of casework and group work theory and techniques is required. 
 
Required Minimum Education
A Bachelor of social work would prepare for entry into position with at least two years social work or counseling experience required to meet full requirements of position, or a four year degree in human services field including at least 15 hours in related course work or Masters degree in a counseling field and 3 years counseling or social work experience, two years of social work or counseling experience, or graduation from  a four year college or university and four years experience in counseling using skills of case work, group work or community organization or Master’s degree from accredited school of social work and one year of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience.
