Animal Control Officer- Hertford County is seeking an Animal Control Officer I. This position performs responsible protective service work enforcing animal control and other related ordinances in the County. Work is performed under regular supervision.
The duties include responding to calls and patrolling to observe animal law violations; enforcing animal control laws; patrols County and impounds animals, cleaning and maintaining animal confinement areas; feeds and waters animals; conduct inspections to ensure the health and welfare of the animals; preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Through knowledge of the laws, ordinances and regulations governing control handling and protection of dogs and other animals. Considerable knowledge of the geography of the County, considerable knowledge of breeds of animals to aid in identification of lost pets and to know traits of various breeds. Ability to recognize diseased animals, including those displaying systems of rabies and some knowledge of the methods and procedures to be followed with a diseased animal. Some knowledge of computer operations .Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of 1 year experience involving the care and treatment of animals.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires climbing, stooping, kneeling crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting. The position is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and hazards.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. This position may have exposure to bloodborne pathogens and the worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and may be required to be immunized against potential exposure hazards.
Salary Range begins $21,457
