The mission of the Hertford County Firefighters Association Honor Guard is to provide comfort, dignity, and respect to families of lost Fire Department personnel with pride and professionalism while representing all Hertford County Fire Departments.
The purpose of the Hertford County Firefighters Association Honor Guard is to show respect and special esteem to a person or event, while keeping watch over them. Many paid departments across the state have Honor Guards; this Honor Guard is formed from all nine fire departments servingHertfordCounty, volunteer and paid.
The Hertford County Firefighters Association Honor Guard was formed in May of 2004 to serve Fire Department personnel and their families.
Members have worked very hard to gain needed equipment, establish guidelines, code of ethics, and standard operating procedures. Members meet to practice posting guard at caskets, folding and presenting a flag, serving as pallbearers, and other ceremony and memorial protocol.
Each member has a navy blue Class A dress uniform, white hat, and white gloves that are worn during formal use and were purchased by the Hertford County Firefighters Association.
The Honor Guard is available for ceremonies, building dedications, memorials, parades, and other special occasions inHertfordCounty. They are also called upon for funerals of any active or retired Hertford County Fire Department personnel and any state line-of-duty firefighter death.
Each eligible Hertford County Firefighter upon his death is entitled to Honor Guard services, graveside wreath, grave marker and US flag provided at the cost of the Association.
