Part Time Fire Inspector
Hertford County is seeking to fill the following position within its governmental operations:
(2) Part-Time Fire Inspectors
$12.50 – $18.00 hourly depending fire inspector certification level
Under supervision of the Fire Marshal, inspects buildings within the jurisdictions of the county for compliance with state and local fire codes. The ability to explain code violations to the business owners, and provide advice concerning corrective action plans. Prepare fire inspection reports, maintain computerized files within software collection program, assists with and participates in the design of evacuation plans for all types of buildings. Monitor fire and evacuation drills in certain buildings, respond to complaints regarding fire code violations and fire hazards, and perform other related emergency response duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Required: Minimum possession of any diploma or certification equivalent to graduation from high school,
Preferred: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science Technology or related field including some experience in fire protection services.
Required: Possession of NC Firefighter Level II Certification; NC Level I Fire Inspector or able to obtain within 24 months and Level II Fire Inspector within 36 months of this appointment or as courses are offered through NC Department of Insurance; Possession of a valid North Carolina drivers’ license.
Preferred: NC EMT-B certification.
This is very heavy work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering grasping, feeling, repetitive motion, verbal communication, hearing, visual acuity. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Attends work 7.5 to 15 hours weekly. Schedules workdays up to a month ahead of time. During times of disasters or emergencies, reports as needed and available.
